News: Tudor Hits The Mark With The Pelagos 39

Following the remarkable success of the Black Bay 58, which saw Tudor reduce the case size of the standard Black Bay model to 39mm, it has now given its dive-watch sibling the Pelagos the same treatment.

There’s no doubt the Pelagos 39, which has dropped the date function of the standard 42mm model, will be enthusiastically welcomed by those Tudor aficionados partial to watches of more modest proportions. And the full titanium case, being lighter than steel and rust-proof, will also appeal to genuine divers (as opposed to holiday paddlers who barely get their hair wet), for whom a 25mm bracelet extension has also been provided, enabling it to fit over a wetsuit.

Technically, the Pelagos continues to trump the Black Bay 58, better known for its warm-hued vintage aesthetic. As well as the grade 2 titanium case and bracelet, it features a fade-proof ceramic bezel insert and the Tudor T-fit clasp for on-the-go micro-adjustments—particularly handy on hot sweaty days when your wrist expands like a python with a thyroid problem.

The dial is hallmark Tudor all the way, with ‘Snowflake’ hour hand, block indices and the shield logo beneath 12 o’clock. Topping that pyramid of text at 6 o’clock is the word ‘Pelagos’ in cherry-red, perhaps a subtle nod to the collectible Rolex Submariner ‘single red’.

The dial comprises a sunray satin finish, surrounded by a 45-degree flange on which the seconds markers are printed. Powered by Tudor’s COSC-certified MT5400 self-winding movement, you can expect a ‘weekend-proof’ power reserve of around 70 hours.

It comes with a complimentary black rubber strap should you wish to switch the bracelet for that classic aquatic look.
